Police Functioning Demystified (Part I)

I still remember as a child how I used to be awestruck by the cop movies and the angry young man cop. They were shown as super humans who can take on anything and everything if he happens to be the hero. To top it, there were departments of the Police which the general public had never heard of, which added to the mystique about the Police. Sometimes it is the Interpol and of late it is the RAW which is creating ripples on the silver screen. Officers from any department – Police or Intelligence – are shown running around with fancy guns with lots of fire power, chasing goons across the globe. Even as an adult, the Police department and its functioning, loaded with myths, has always been enigmatic to many. So I thought of demystifying some of these myths fed by the dramatization of the cop characters in these movies.

At the outset, we need to understand the various types of Police Organisations existing in India.
